Week 20

Sooo many things I can talk about.

For one, how amazing was the womens conference? I especially loved something that one of the hermanas talked about.  (I don’t know who because the video part didn’t work for our session) but she talked about when we think about our mothers we should think about Christ, how the two are inseparable. I really want to be a mom like that, and I can’t believe how much the mission has been helping me be more prepared to have the role of a mother. I didn’t come on the mission to be a better wife and mother, but I’m sure excited to come home with a more personal relationship with my Savior and an unshaking faith in the gospel. Also President Eyring`s talk was amazing. Read it everyone.

This week was awesome. One of our menos (less) actives that we rescued has been on fire this week. She has been sharing the gospel with everyone that she has ever known. Every day this week she has been calling us to see if we can come visit one of her friends.  And Sunday night we walked around our area with her and in 30 minutes we had about 10 referencias (referrals). Whenever we feel like we don’t have anyone to teach, now we know to just call her and go for a walk around the neighborhood. It is so amazing to see how the life of someone changes when they become completely converted to the gospel. She has experienced some really terrible things in her life, but now can testify with all the energy of her heart how true the gospel is.

I don’t know what we are doing, but we must be doing something right because we have had so many blessings this week. I think of Mr. Bitter and all of the “good problems” that we have like right now we are scheduling citas (dates) for the next week because right now we have every hour booked until conference.

Also, Elder Godoy came and spoke to us and it was amazing.. until next week!

Week 19

I can only upload pics from my USB right now cause the computer won’t accept my card so I can’t send pics from our amazing bolivian dinner we made and when my comp did my makeup all crazy like and when we ate food and other stuff.

It’s always hard trying to think of what happened this week. I love my area, president. I would be completely happy staying here for my whole mission. I have really come to love the members and the people we are visiting and teaching. I love working with Hermana Osinaga, and love how with her we contact a whole lot more on the streets. I am super animada (excited) to have more than 100 contacts this week and to have found the people we have found this week. We have found tons of new people that have so much potential, including an abuelita (granny) that accepted baptism! She was sick to the point where she couldn’t see this week, and still got up Sunday and went to church for three hours. She can’t read, but a jovencita (youth) in our ward volunteered to read the Book of Mormon to her once a week.

More than anything, I love the feeling coming home at the end of the day and not have any energy to go up the stairs to our room. I love working all day and there is not enough time in the day to we visit the people that we need to visit in the area. We need about 5 more hours in the day I think.

We saw a mini miracle with an investigator who came to church this week. He is the most duro (hardest) person I have met so far on the mission, and we have been working so hard with him. For weeks he just wanted to argue and wouldn’t listen (to) anything we said, but this week he showed up at church and stayed the full time. This is his third time going to the church and todavia (however) doesn’t want to accept an answer to his search for truth. He is scared to ask God. He always prays, but todavia (however) hasn’t asked God if it is true. He says he feels so good when he reads the Bible, but doesn’t feel anything with the Book of Mormon. But I know that once he prays and asks God he will find that it is all true. I’ve seen his heart be softened so much these past two weeks and I have a lot of faith in him that he will eventually get baptized.

I love this work and I love you all!!

Week 18

Ahh so we did have cambios {transfers} this week and my comp went to be a hermana lider {leader} in her old zone (crazy!) and I stayed here thankfully and got a new comp!!! Hermana Osinaga from Santa Cruz, Bolivia! She is number 19 of 20 hermanos {children} and is a convert to the church hace 3 years. She is so awesome and I can already tell that she will be one of my best friends, we just chill so well. She will die soon, so more than likely I will kill her. {Meaning she is at the end of her mission and Sydney will be her last companion.}  We both have an obsession with chocolate which is really really dangerous.

This week was really great. I feel really good about this cambio. Hna Osinaga is awesome and I have learned a lot from her already in how to teach people and not lessons. We found a lot of people this week who we are really excited for. Three of our nuevos {new ones} came to church this week and they are really good people. One of which said that she has been contacted by missionaries from all of the religions, but when we contacted her, she felt something different and for this she accepted a cita {appointment}. She is really receptive to the spirit, so we are excited to see her progression this next coming week!

This week was really hard with one of our families that we have, Willy y Erlita. We have been working so hard with them for months, and these past couple of weeks they have made some incredible progress, and accepted matrimonio {marriage} and baptism. But Satan has been working really hard on them too, and this week they passed through some really hard things. One day they literally didn’t have food to eat, and they don’t have work, and started to have really strong pareja {couple} problems and then her husband stopped participating in the lessons. Then they just disappeared for a couple days this week, where we couldn’t get a hold of them and when we did, she said that they were with her family lejos {extended}. She said they would attend church when we called them, but didn’t show up, and for the life of us we can’t get a hold of them or find them. We will do a fast this week for them again and pray a ton, because they are really awesome people and I have grown to love them so much. That’s all for now!

Week 17

These past couple of weeks have been crazy and super amazingly awesome. Times were rough in our area and our zone for a while due to some things, but me and my companion refocused ourselves to be absolutely completely obedient and with the new rule that we have to be in our rooms at 9 si or si {?}, things have improved drastically in our area.

For one, we finally had a real lesson with Erlita!!! The miracle family! She is the one that we fasted for so that she could stay with her husband and that her family will be ok, and then we found out she was pregnant. That was awesome, and then we kept just showing up at her work and share time with her. It has taken forever, but we have her trust now! When she got the lessons from Hermana Luis and Hermana Shroader (whom I replaced), after a lesson about the ley de castidad {law of chastity}, she and her husband disappeared for months. Then when I arrived she opened up a shop near the chapel so we pass by almost every day! She still is impossible to get a hold of, on account of so many things, but now that we´re friends (we’ve had so many opportunities for service) we can just show up and teach and it’s awesome.

But it has taken many miracles to get to this point. Sooo much pacience and diligence. We have fasted days for her, and every time we fast, we have some sort of progression with her. Like last week, after weeks of teaching small lessons in her shop, we were in a visita de trabajo {work visit} with our district leader, and we passed by and she was alone in her shop!! We taught our first real lesson in a long time, and our amazing district leader got her to committ to go to church. She was soo excited and we left the lesson crying from joy.

Then she didn’t go to church because she got really sick. Or that’s what she told us. (Lots of complicated things.. her husband didn’t want to talk to us and they made their daughter lie and say they weren’t home and stuff) But we showed up that night (1 de Marzo) and gave her a priesthood blessing {the district leaders were with her} for salud {health} and she was crying at the end of the blessing.. she felt the spirit so strong and oh man it was amazing.

Then we couldn’t find her again, until we fasted and had another milagro {miracle}! Wednesdays we do service in the mornings and this past Wednesday we didn’t have any service planned to do, so we felt to go search an old investigator that lives abajo {downtown?}… and nothing. We knew that she wouldn’t be there, but we went anyways. Then we felt to go see if we could find Erlita. She wasn’t there either, but as we were about to leave, we saw her coming up the road! If we were at her house at any other time we wouldn’t have found her and oh man we said many prayers of thanks! We did her laundry and talked and sang hymns and joked and scheduled for a lesson that afternoon when the miracle worker Elder Garcia could come (el va a subir este cambio a ser lider de zona, estoy muy segura) – {I’m sure he’s going to be a zone leader in this next transfer}.

This lesson was amazing, and her husband Willy was there and oh man we taught with the Spirit of God and reviewed so many things that Willy had forgotten. They committed to baptism and to matrimonio {marriage} at the end of the month!!!!!! And they attended church on Sunday for three hours and came with us to noche de hogars {Family Night?} and I love them so much and they are amazing and Willy will be one of the great teachers of the gospel and oh man I am so grateful to the Lord to have been able to see this in my area these past couple weeks. (along with many more miracles)

Just want to finish with my testimony of the Book of Mormon. I know that it is a true book. It’s such a simple thing, that God is our loving Heavenly Father, and that He wants to talk to us, his children. He wants us to be happy and for this, has given us our families so that we can have a support system to grow and have happiness in this life. He has give us a plan, the gospel of Jesus Christ, that we if we just follow it, we will return back to live with Him forever with our families. If we have faith in Him, repent of our sins, are baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end, we can have all these blessings of eternity.

He has always revealed this plan to his prophets, who have the authority to teach and to receive this instruction directly from God. And because God loves us so much, he has always permitted that these prophets can teach us, according to our willingness and faith. He has always called prophets, today as well as in ancient times, all over the world. The Book of Mormon is a grand show of the love of our Heavenly Father, that he called prophets for his children that lived in the Americas in ancient times. It is evidence that God loves his children so much that he called Joseph to restore the gospel, so that once again we can have the true principles of the gospel. Without the gospel we can’t live with our families for forever or live with God again.

I love reading the Book of Mormon because I feel God’s love. I feel closer to my Heavenly Father and my Savior. I have come to know my Savior more through this book than through any other, and can recognize His hand in all things. This Book can´t not be true, because there my life has been changed for a reason. This morning I didn’t wake up more closer to God. I have been so much closer to God through exercising my faith in reading the Book of Mormon and praying to know if it is true. The study of the scriptures has changed my life and I know that it will change the life of every person that reads it.

Thats all for now… chiao (is that how you spell it?)

We climbed a cerro (hill) and I’m alive sorry don’t have time!!! The church is still true and man I wish I could share all the crazy experiences we had this week with the ayuno (fast) but I can say that if you ever need something.. fast!!! It literally works miracles. We had the opportunity to fast multiple times this week and had some amazing experiences with people we found and investigators that we have!
