Week 24

Wow so I was not expecting cambios (transfers) at all.. I only had 3 cambios in my birth area… With two companions and now I am in my second zona: SAN FELIPE!!!!!! area: San Carlos 1 en Comas, Lima. Es tan bacan aqui. (It is cool here.)  I went from San Juan de Lurigancho where the people are so extremely humble and everyone lives in dirt hills and they give you food every time you enter their house… and now I am in San Felipe, the most pituco (rich) area en la mision. It’s more flat here and so all the people have more money and are more hard of heart. When my zone leader found out I was going to San Felipe he was like “This will be the Gethsemane of your mission.” Apparently it’s the hardest area in the mission but to me that’s like saying you’re the slowest runner on the olympic track team.  I am so pumped to find the chosen and prepared here in San Felipe!! My new comp is Hermana Paez de MEXICO!!! Finally a Mexican companion!!!!! I am sooo excited for this cambio and I know it will be genial (cool).

So far the area has been pretty great…we need a refresh of new investigators so we are contacting like crazy!!!! oh man it’s going to be so great! I’m going to miss san juan a lot but I really feel like this is where I am supposed to be right now.  The ward is awesome!!!  We talk with the bishop all the time and I actually feel like we are helping the ward instead of us trying to get to the ward to move and do something. All the leaders really support us and come to appointments with us is the the absolute best. stay tuned!

Week 23

This week was great!!! We´re working hard in the area…trying not to think about the possibility of cambios (transfers) this week. I hope I get to kill my comp (be her last companion because she’s going home), cause I really don’t want to leave my area and I love my companion a lot.

This week we got a couple to commit to get married!!! We even had him get down on one knee and propose with a CTR ring! It was so great!! They are the family that we met when we were really discouraged and he said that his brother-in-law wanted to enter our church. Sissi (the soon to be bride) gained her testimony so quickly when she started to read the Book of Mormon. I remember we came the third visit and she just sat us down and straight up just told us that she knows the church is true and whenever she feels distressed or upset or sad she just says “where’s my libro (book)”.  It was such a wonderful surprise haha. We´re so excited for them! The hardest part is waiting for their partidas (items – I think in this case the marriage papers) to arrive so they can get married. (the main reason why baptisms are postponed. it’s a huge trial of faith for some people).

I feel like I’m really getting a hang of the language and can express myself now. Before I felt so limited but now I feel the spirit working with me so much more and I feel more inspired and close to the spirit to be able to express God´s love to these people and the importance of keeping his mandamientos (commandments). I love this work so much!! Read the Book of Mormon!

Week 22

Baptism of Rosalinda!!! She is amazing!!!! We met her exactly one month prior to her baptism!! She was just so ready! There were days where she was so sick to the point that she couldn’t even see and she still got up to go to church and stayed for 3 hours! She goes to church all on her own despite her severe medical problems and the fact that she can barely walk she still goes and oh man her story is amazing I wish I had time to write it…crazy morning this morning-

Just look at her face when she left the water!  Look how pure she is!  I love this point more than any point of baptism… cause they are just so clean and perfect in this moment!

Love you all write more next week –

Week 21

Ok so this week was also pretty great. We were hit with some disanimo (discouragement?) about the middle of the week for certain reasons but what I had learned with Hna Luis when we had some weeks of disanimo really helped me push through and work even harder. We ended the week passing almost every one of our goals. In our mission our president has asked us to contact 100 people with 50 hombres mayores (older men) and 20 families, and to teach 32 complete lessons. With my trainer we always had more than 32 lessons but with Hermana Osinaga I have learned how to contact, and it’s awesome! I have noticed a huge change in the people we have met and I have seen more miracles. Not just because we talk to more people and that we meet more people that are prepared, but because when we are completely obedient, the Lord blesses us!

This week when we were pretty discouraged and taking about how we just didn’t feel like contacting, almost mid sentence we both kind of headed for a man that was sweeping his porch, and when we introduced ourselves, he said “oh, my cunado (brother-in-law) wanted to enter your church…” and we were like, “what??” haha and then he said “can you come in and talk for a minute?” the words that every missionary prays to hear. We went in and sat down, and his wife came out and sat down and asked us if we were Mormons and then she asked “perdon, but can you possibly tell me about your church?” and then entered her hermano (the cunado of the man we contacted) and taught them all and sacamos cita (we got a date) for this week! They will all get baptized, we just felt that realy clearly when we taught them. It was so cool.

We had another experience with an hermano that we were teaching.. it was the first lesson with him. It was one of those lessons when he wouldn’t let us talk and he just rambled about how religion was just politics and has every reason he ever developed to support his reasoning and normally when we have these kinds of lessons, you just have to do your best to bring the spirit and testify and just try to have a bunch of patience and come back later if the spirit tells you to. There was a point the lesson when we both just thought, oh man how do we get out of here? haha but then at the end of the lesson while I was teaching the ending part of it, my comp began to talk to his daughter off to the side who had left during the lesson and returned with a book of mormon and principios of the gospel book (that we use in one of the sunday school classes in church).  I didn’t hear her conversation or see the books she brought, so I was really surprised when my comp asked to come back again sometime this week. but she told me after that his daughter and his other daughter wanted to get baptized about a year ago, and one day the missionaries just stopped coming (something that happens sometimes with cambios – transfers) and she said that her dad never opens to missionaries, just to us. and ever since the missionaries started coming her dad completely changed.  He doesn’t beat them anymore and has more patience and is at home more. So yeah they’ll get baptized too so that was pretty cool.

So many blessings of the Lord, the church is so true. I really hope I don’t leave my area, though I’m feeling like I might this change. Love you all.
